The Delta State Police Command has arrested 40-year-old lady Smart Amanda, for allegedly pretending to have been kidnapped, and thereafter extorted her Facebook lover millionaires of naira as ransom.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bright Edafe said that on the 11th of November 2024 at about 11:am, a complainant reported that one Smart Amanda, who he met on Facebook was on her to to visit in Ekpan and was kidnapped along Agbarho.
The complainant later got a call from one faith Oghenejabor that her friend Smart Amanda who was coming to see him (complainant) had been kidnapped and that the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of N15,000,000.
Faith also called the next day stating that she and others had raised a huge part of the money and that the ransom remained N150,000.
After the release of Smart Amanda, Faith continued to call and extort money from the complainant. When the complainant calculated the money he had paid to Faith, it came to a million nine hundred and fifty thousand.
Edafe said: “The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ekpan detailed operatives who embarked on an intelligence investigation and arrested Faith. The investigation later revealed that Faith is the same person as Smart Amanda. The suspect is in custody.”
The Delta State Police Command in another development, arrested suspected cultists and armed robbers and recovered one pump action gun and one locally made cut-to-size gun.
Edafe stated that on the 10th of January 2025, acting on credible intelligence, Operatives of the CP- Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) stormed Oghara town and arrested Lucky Adoko, 39 and Bishop Bobi, 44.
The operatives recovered one locally made cut-to-size gun, the operatives also stormed Sapele town where they arrested one Junior Umokoro, 24y and recovered one pump action gun.
“Investigation revealed that Bishop Bobi is a member of Eiye confraternity member. The suspects are in custody and the investigation is ongoing,” said Edafe.
