The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, today approved the recommendation for the dismissal of Inspector Kabiru Odeyemi.

According to the Lagos State Police spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, this automatically paves the way for his arraignment which will take place on Friday, July 7, 2023.

It will be recalled that the victim, a generator technician, Bakare Idris, was shot dead by a Nigerian policeman in the Oregun area of Lagos. The alleged shooter was later identified to be attached to Alausa Police Division in Lagos.

According to Sahara reporters, the deceased brother explained that the victim was returning from a party around Oregun, on his way to Fela Shrine, when he heard two gunshots. One of the shots got him.

It was later discovered that the shooter was Inspector Kabiru, who was allegedly shooting and chasing after some people at a bus stop.

It is believed that Idris would have been saved, but Kabiru, apparently to conceal his crime, snatched the victim from those who took him to a nearby clinic, threatened everyone, bundled the wounded and bleeding Idris into a bus and disappeared.

Idris’s distraught family started frantically searching for him and went to the Police Station, but Idris and Kabiru were not there.

When Kabiru’s DPO finally got him, he claimed to have taken Idris to an emergency centre, where he died.

It was also said that on the fateful day of the fatal shooting, Kabiru was not supposed to be on duty, let alone be on the road threatening and shooting people.

Revealing the latest development on the case, Hundeyin, said: “The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Idowu Owohunwa, assures Lagosians of his unwavering determination to police the state within the dictates of rule of law, civility and respect for human life.”
