The Lagos State Police Command has said it will hold to account any officer found culpable in a recent incident of alleged misconduct, stressing that it has zero tolerance for abuse of office.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Adebisi, said in a statement that the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, has taken decisive steps in response to the incident, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to accountability.
“No uniform is a licence to intimidate, harass, or violate the rights of any citizen,” Adebisi said. “The uniform is a symbol of service, trust, and responsibility, and anyone who abuses that trust must be prepared to face the consequences.”
Acknowledging public reaction to the incident, the PPRO said the Command understands the anger and concern such cases generate.
“We understand the anger and concern such incidents generate, and we assure the public that no officer will be shielded from accountability if found culpable,” he said.
Adebisi added that the Command remains committed to protecting the rights of the people it is sworn to serve. “The dignity of every citizen matters,” he said.
The Command did not disclose further details of the steps taken by the Commissioner in the statement.
