Lagos Police Bust ₦500m Visa Scam, Arrests Four Suspects

-

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four individuals linked to a massive visa scam worth ₦500 million, targeting over 100 unsuspecting job seekers. The suspects—Blessing Wefsutu (27), Chineye Christian (36), Archibong Udeme Ifereke (23), and Maurine Peter (25)were all staff of an educational consultancy firm based in Ago Okota, Lagos.

The scam, which promised Canadian and Australian work visas, was initially reported at the Ago Okota Police Division and later escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further probe.

Investigations revealed that the suspects fraudulently collected payments from victims under the pretence of securing overseas job placements.

Police authorities confirm that the fraudulent network likely extends beyond those arrested, with additional accomplices currently being sought.

In a statement, Commissioner of Police CP Olohundare Jimoh cautioned the public to exercise vigilance when dealing with travel and recruitment agencies. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to bringing all involved parties to justice and safeguarding residents against criminal exploitation.

The public is urged to report any suspicious visa-related activities as investigations continue.
