Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully dismantled a terrorist roadblock mounted by JAS/ISWAP insurgents along the Buratai–Kamuya road in the Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The swift military intervention resulted in the rescue of 53 civilian hostages and the recovery of eight vehicles.
According to a statement released on Thursday by Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, the operation took place on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The encounter began when troops deployed at Dutse Kura spotted the terrorists blocking the highway via surveillance cameras. A Quick Reaction Force (QRF) was immediately mobilized to the scene, pursuing the insurgents toward the Mangari–Dora general area. Upon making contact, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to flee the scene in confusion.
During the exploitation phase of the operation, the military successfully secured the 53 civilians and recovered the eight vehicles previously seized by the insurgents.
Troops advanced further to clear the terrorists’ withdrawal route and dominate the area, though no further contact with the enemy was made.
All rescued persons, recovered vehicles, and personal properties have been safely evacuated to Buratai town. The rescued civilians are currently undergoing official documentation and medical evaluations.
The Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai commended the troops for their professionalism and rapid response. Military authorities have urged residents within the Joint Operations Area to remain vigilant and to continue providing timely information regarding any suspicious activities in their communities.
Officials confirm that the security situation in the area remains calm as troops maintain an aggressive posture to ensure continued dominance over the region.
