Lagos Taskforce Arrests 46 Suspected Criminals, Recovers Dane Gun, Narcotics

-

The Lagos State Taskforce has arrested 46 suspected criminal elements during a clean-up enforcement operation carried out across parts of Lagos Island and the Lekki-Epe corridor on Friday.

The operation, which began at about 9:00 a.m., was part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to rid the state of street urchins, miscreants, drug addicts, drug peddlers, illegal commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders), street traders, illegal ticket operators and other criminal elements.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs of the Lagos State Taskforce, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the enforcement team visited Muri-Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Obalende Underbridge, Law School Junction, Maroko, Sandfill by Mobil Bus Stop and Marwa Bus Stop along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

The statement said a total of 46 suspects were apprehended during the operation.

Items recovered from the suspects included substances suspected to be Indian hemp, Colorado and cannabis, one UTC cutlass and one Dane gun described as a metal object fabricated in the form of a pistol but incapable of firing live ammunition.

The agency said normalcy had been restored in all the affected areas following the operation.

It added that all arrested suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017, and the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.

Speaking at the agency’s headquarters, the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, reiterated the agency’s resolve to sustain enforcement operations across the state.

Akerele said the taskforce would not give any breathing space to criminal elements operating in Lagos, adding that the agency remained committed to maintaining law and order through continuous enforcement activities. #Securitynewsalert.com
