LASTMA Applauds Officer Who Turned Down ₦20,000 Gratification in Lagos

-

The Management of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has commended the laudable conduct of one of its distinguished officers, Officer Muibi Ademola (Bravo 27), for demonstrating uncommon integrity, discipline, and professionalism by refusing a ₦20,000 monetary offer from a motorist at the Ago–Ibiwoye axis of Okota, Lagos.

According to a report published in The Nation newspaper of Wednesday, October 22, 2025 (page 23), a motorist had drawn Officer Ademola’s attention to a developing traffic congestion within the Ago–Ibiwoye corridor. In an impressive display of alertness and commitment to duty, the officer swiftly proceeded to the location and diligently restored order and fluidity of movement within a short span.
Overwhelmed by the officer’s prompt response and efficiency, the motorist reportedly offered him a monetary token of ₦20,000 in appreciation.
However, in an extraordinary demonstration of moral fortitude and ethical rectitude, Officer Ademola politely declined the offer, asserting that he was merely executing his lawful responsibility for which he receives adequate remuneration from the Lagos State Government.
Reacting to the report, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed profound admiration for Officer Ademola’s exemplary comportment, describing it as a reflection of unwavering professionalism, integrity, and fidelity to the ethical tenets that define LASTMA’s operations.
Mr. Bakare-Oki noted that such rare conduct not only strengthens public confidence in the Agency but also underscores the renewed spirit of transparency, accountability, and service excellence being institutionalized within LASTMA under the visionary leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
He further emphasized that Officer Ademola’s noble gesture epitomizes the redefined moral orientation and value reawakening being championed by the current management to restore the dignity and public trust of traffic law enforcement officers across Lagos State.
The General Manager, therefore, urged all LASTMA personnel to emulate Officer Ademola’s sterling example by upholding the virtues of honesty, fairness, and unwavering dedication to public service.
He reiterated that the Agency remains steadfast in recognising and celebrating officers whose actions elevate the institutional image of LASTMA and project the Lagos State Government as a bastion of integrity-driven governance.
Mr. Bakare-Oki also reaffirmed the Management’s commitment to continuous training, ethical reorientation, and capacity development aimed at fostering discipline, civility, and operational excellence among all LASTMA officers.
He concluded by reiterating LASTMA’s unflinching dedication to its core mandate of ensuring seamless traffic management, public safety, and strict enforcement of road traffic regulations across the State.
In his response, Officer Muibi Ademola expressed gratitude to the new LASTMA management for its sustained investment in personnel training and retraining, which he credited for shaping his professional outlook and ethical disposition.
He further appreciated the Lagos State Government for its continued provision of essential logistics, including standard uniforms and other operational materials, which, according to him, greatly enhance the efficiency and morale of officers in the discharge of their duties.
