LASTMA, FCTA collaborate on traffic management

The Director of Public Affairs of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), has concluded arrangements to collaborate with the Federal Capital Territory Administration on traffic management and control.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba disclosed this while welcoming officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to his office at LASTMA Headquarters on Wednesday.

Oreagba gave the rationale behind the formation of LASTMA on the 15th of July, 2000 during the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the need to reduce the traffic congestion encountered due to the high influx of people trooping daily into the state.

The General Manager of LASTMA was represented by the Director of Rescue Department of the agency, Mr Adeolu Joan.

He added that the Agency has over 4000 personnel managing the traffic across the metropolis to achieve the goal of free vehicular movement flow.

He reiterated that all working ethics of LASTMA including operations are being guarded and regulated by the Lagos State Traffic Sector Reform Law of 2018 as amended.

His words: “Let me inform you that LASTMA was not established for revenue generation as being insinuated by some public sections. The Authority is purely saddled with the control, management and regulations of traffic-related matters within Lagos metropolis. And we will continue to strive to achieve a greater Lagos vision where effective and efficient traffic management will drive, improve and increase socio-economic development of Lagos.”

He also highlighted the details of the workings of the Authority including all the various departments and units that made up LASTMA.

Earlier in his address, the Head of the delegation and Secretary of the Economic Planning, Revenue Generation and Public-Private Partnership, Honourable Agboola Lukman Dabiri, who was represented by Baba Shuaibu Adukke said his team was on a two-day working visit to understudy LASTMA’s modern innovations of Road Traffic Management Control in order to improve on their services on the FCT.
