SOLDIERS PAYING LAST RESPECT TO FALLEN HEROES

The nation was enveloped in grief on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, as the remains of Late Brigadier General Omo Braimah, Captain Azubuike Michael Esimai, and other valiant soldiers were laid to rest at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The solemn ceremony, marked by military precision and deep emotion, paid tribute to men who gave their lives in defence of Nigeria.

Families, comrades, and dignitaries gathered under heavy skies to witness the burial rites, which were conducted with full military honours. The atmosphere was one of sorrow and reverence, as the sacrifices of the fallen were acknowledged as the ultimate price of safeguarding peace, unity, and security.

Their deaths serve as a stark reminder of the daily risks borne by members of the Armed Forces in the fight to protect the nation.

Among those present were the Executive Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, the Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Chief of Army Staff, alongside senior military officers. Their attendance underscored the gravity of the loss and the collective respect for the courage displayed by the departed.

In their tributes, the Governor, the Defence Minister, and the military chiefs described the fallen as patriots who stood firm in the face of danger and chose duty above self. They emphasised that the bravery and devotion of these soldiers will remain etched in Nigeria’s history, serving as an enduring inspiration for future generations. Citations recounting their service were read aloud before their families, a poignant reminder of the human cost of national security.

Prayers were offered for the peaceful repose of their souls, while the grief of their loved ones highlighted the personal toll of the nation’s struggle against insecurity. Yet, amid the sorrow, there was pride—pride in men who embodied courage and honour, and whose sacrifice ensures that others may live in safety.

As the nation mourns, it is reminded that freedom and stability are never without cost. These heroes gave everything in service to their fatherland, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and patriotism that will continue to shape Nigeria’s collective memory.
