Man Arraigned For Obtaining N11.2m Under False Pretences

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, June 25, 2025, arraigned one Oluwadahunsola Taiwo before Justice O. A. Okunuga of the Lagos State High Court sitting in  Ikeja, Lagos.

Taiwo, alongside Green Eagles Agribusiness  Solution  Limited, was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretences.

The petitioner,  Adepoju Idowu, alleged that he invested the sum of N1,500,000 (One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira) in a cash cow vegetable  potpourri plantation sometime in February 2020, with a promise of 30% Return on Investment, RoI, after every three month by the defendant.

He also alleged that he made another investment in a rice farm to the tune of N1,060,000 sometime in April, 2020, with a  40% Return on Investment, RoI, every six month.

He further alleged that he invested the sum of N4,900,000 on October 30, 2020 in Green Wealth Project – 1 Year Tenor, with a 30%  Return on Investment, RoI,  per year.

The petitioner further alleged that he invested the sum of N4,900,000 ( Four  Million, Nine Hundred Thousand Naira ) in Green Wealth Project-3 Year Tenor, with a 30% Return on Investment, RoI, per year.

According to him, all the payments were made into the Green Eagle Agric Solution Limited’s Account  No. 2033169176 domiciled in First Bank of Nigeria.

He, however, alleged that the company had not fulfilled any of its promised deliverables and that all efforts to contact the defendant had been unsuccessful.

One of the counts reads: “That you, OLUWADAJUNSOLA TAIWO and GREEN EAGLES AGRIBUSINESS SOLUTION LIMITED, between February and October, 2020, in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, dishonesty converted to your own use an aggregate sum of N11, 260,000.00 (Eleven Million Naira, Two Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira), property of Adepoju Idowu, thereby committed an offence Stealing, contrary to Section 285 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”

He pleaded “not guilty” to the charges when they were read to him.

 In view of this,  prosecution counsel, R.A. Abdulrasheed, asked the court for a trial date and prayed the court to remand the defendant in a Correctional Centre pending trial.

Justice Okunuga adjourned the case till October 23, 2025 for commencement of trial.
