Police in Rivers State have arrested a 46-year-old man four months after he allegedly assaulted a woman in an incident that went viral on social media.
The suspect, identified as Abi Baragon, was apprehended on October 13, 2025, by Operatives from the Human Rights Department. His arrest follows an investigation into a distressing video from June 20, 2025, which depicted a woman crying out after an alleged assault.
According to police, the suspect voluntarily confessed during interrogation to using bottles and stabbing the victim.
The alleged motive for the attack stems from the victim’s rejection of the suspect’s marriage proposal. The victim reportedly refused the proposal upon discovering that Baragon was already married and had four children. Police noted that the suspect has denied this allegation.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the victim is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. The suspect remains in police custody as a “discreet investigation” is concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, commended the officers for the arrest and thanked the public for sharing credible information. The command stated the suspect will face prosecution upon the investigation’s completion.
