A 25-year-old man was rescued by a joint team of police and vigilantes on Saturday, hours after being kidnapped from his home in Kesan village. The victim, Abdulmumini Alhaji Ahmadu, was shot and seriously injured by his abductors as they fled the scene.
The ordeal began around 5:00 a.m. when a gang of armed men stormed the village and seized Ahmadu. According to a police statement, the local divisional police officer immediately mobilized a security team to pursue the kidnappers.
The team tracked the suspects into a nearby forest. During the rescue, the kidnappers shot Ahmadu in the left leg before managing to escape. The victim has since been taken to a medical facility for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.
Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Bello M. Sani, praised the joint team’s efforts and reiterated the command’s commitment to fighting crime.
“We are unwavering in our determination to maintain peace and stability across the state,” the Commissioner stated. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, calling public cooperation “essential in combating criminality.”
