Ministry launches investigation into video showing torture of minor, arrests suspect

Advocate for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN), has reacted to a viral video showing the abuse and mistreatment of a minor, revealing that the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has stepped into the matter.

The co-founder of ACVPN, Mr Ebenezer Omajelile revealed that the Ministry immediately swung into action to locate and identify the victim.

He also said that the alleged perpetrator involved in the torture of the child has been identified as Mrs Adeyanju Temitope, 25 years old and is currently in police custody.

The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye reacting to the incident, said: “ With the assistance of various stakeholders, we are obtaining relevant details to aid further investigation by law enforcement agencies. Furthermore, as part of our proactive efforts, we are immediately taking responsibility for the minor for full medical attention.

“We are committed to providing her with adequate medical and psychosocial support. We wish to reassure the public that the State Government, under the leadership of the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration, remains steadfast in its commitment to safety and child protection. We also remind the general public that anyone who engages in actions contrary to the State Child Rights Law will face the full wrath of the law.

“We appeal to all members of the public to protect minors and report any cases of child abuse or gender-based violence. We assure you that the protection of sources is guaranteed.
