Mother, Son Arrested for Attempted Money Ritual, Police Rescue 10-Year-Old

-

The Ondo State Police Command has foiled a suspected ritual attempt in Ile-Oluji, arresting a 53-year-old woman and her son for allegedly plotting to use a young child for a “money ritual.”

The operation, carried out on December 27, 2025, resulted in the successful rescue of a 10-year-old boy.

Acting on a tip-off from a concerned citizen, operatives from the SWAT Tactical Team utilised credible intelligence to move on a residence in Ile-Oluji. The suspects, identified as Maria (53) and her son, Adewale (28), were taken into custody at the scene.

According to police reports, the 10-year-old victim was found unharmed but has since been moved to a local hospital for medical evaluation and care.

Preliminary investigations by the Command revealed a disturbing family plot. Maria allegedly conspired with Adewale to seek out the services of an herbalist, intending to use the young boy for a ritual to attract wealth.

“The suspects are currently in police custody and have reportedly confessed to the crime,” a police spokesperson confirmed. They are expected to face formal charges in court once the investigation is finalised.

The Commissioner of Police for Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, lauded the tactical team for their swift intervention. He noted that the success of the operation underscores the importance of intelligence-led policing in preventing violent crimes before they occur.

CP Lawal also took the opportunity to issue a stern warning to parents and guardians regarding the rise of the “get-rich-quick” mentality.

“I advise mothers to refrain from nefarious acts and instead serve as positive role models,” Lawal stated. “Parents must discourage their children from seeking shortcuts to wealth and instead instil the values of hard work and integrity.”

The Command expressed gratitude to Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, noting that ongoing technological reforms have significantly enhanced the efficiency of officers in the field.

The police are urging members of the public to remain observant and report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest station, emphasising that community cooperation is the most effective tool against crime.
