The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday marked the grand finale of the 2026 National Police Day celebrations with a colourful parade at Eagle Square, bringing together personnel from various units, formations, and commands.

The event featured a ceremonial procession involving officers of the police alongside other security and paramilitary agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, reflecting strengthened inter-agency collaboration in national security.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Ahmad Abdulhamid Malam Madori; Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs, Wale Ahmed; and Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu.

Also in attendance were Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed; Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi; and former Inspectors-General of Police, including MD Abubakar, Ogbonna Onovo, Mike Okiro, and Suleiman Abba, among other senior government officials and stakeholders.

Speaking as the Reviewing Officer, President Tinubu, represented by Shettima, commended the police for their dedication and resilience, while reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening reforms, operational capacity, and personnel welfare in line with national security priorities.

In his address, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, described National Police Day as an opportunity to honour fallen officers and reinforce the values of discipline, professionalism, and service.

He stressed the need for a more accountable, intelligence-driven, and community-focused police force, assuring Nigerians of continued efforts to improve policing standards and build public trust nationwide.

Activities marking the celebration included a nationwide walkathon, community service initiatives, medical outreach programmes, public sensitisation campaigns, and the presentation of welfare cheques to families of fallen officers.

The police reiterated its commitment to professionalism, service excellence, and the protection of lives and property, as the Force continues efforts to reposition itself to meet the country’s evolving security challenges. #Securitynewsalert.com
