The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has intensified its crackdown on internal security by conducting a nationwide destruction of seized contraband, signalling a renewed commitment to prison discipline.
In a decisive move labelled “No Hiding Place,” the NCoS conducted a massive exercise to dispose of prohibited items recovered from custodial centres nationwide. The destroyed haul included a significant number of mobile phones, laptops, and various quantities of illicit drugs.
According to officials, the NCoS is maintaining a policy of zero tolerance for illegality within its walls. By eliminating these contraband items, the service aims to mitigate security threats and ensure that the environment remains conducive to inmate reformation and facility safety.
Authorities confirmed that routine searches will continue unabated as part of an ongoing strategy to reinforce order and prevent the influx of unauthorised materials into the nation’s prisons.
