Nigeria Police In Panic Over Sowore’s Planned Solidarity Protest With Retired Officers

-

The Nigeria Police Force appears in jitters following the announcement by Omoyele Yele Sowore, a politician, human rights activist, and founder of Sahara Reporters planned nationwide protest in support of retired police officers in Nigeria.

A signal sighted by Securitynewsalert.com reads in part, “Following message received that Omoyele Sowore will embark on a peaceful protest in solidarity with retired police officers nationwide, AIGZON 5 BENIN directs you should hold a stakeholder meeting with retired police officers in your AORS, you should do anything possible within your powers to thwart the planned protest and put in place water-tight security in your various commands. Treat as very important.”

The nationwide event is scheduled to take place on the 21st of July 2025.

Sowore said: “We fought against the Nigeria Police Force across the country during #EndSARS. Celebrities, politicians, and religious leaders all joined in condemning police brutality. But today, when we finally have the chance to fight for the welfare of police officers to demand better pay, equipment, and dignity, all those voices are silent.
Yet, the police are part of us. Many of them are victims of the same oppressive system.
This is not just about protest, it’s about justice for all Nigerians.”

In Nigeria, Sowore has become known for initiating several protests, all targeted at demanding justice and accountability, and the welfare of Nigerians.

These protests naturally come with a cost, which is law enforcement agents and agencies being very wary of him.

During an exclusive with this reporter, Sowore spoke about his active initiation of the #endbadgovernance protest.

His words: “In my case, they intensified, put my name on the watch list of the federal government at the airport. So, each time I came back, they would stop me and ask me what I was doing in Nigeria.”
