Nigeria Police investigates death of Inspector found with bullet hole in his head

The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into the death of Police Inspector, Phanuel Andrew, who was found in his car with a bullet hole in his head in Ikot Ekpene.

It is believed that Andrew with A/P NO 254654, shot himself while cleaning his gun chamber inside his Toyota Corolla car, but more confusing and casting doubt to the story of the deceased mistakenly shooting himself is the arrest of  Emmanuel Akpan Ekanem, a native doctor, in connection with the incident.  Ekanem’s role in this incident and the reason for his arrest is still unclear.

However, a police source said: “On 27th of July 2023, at about 7:40 am, one A/P NO 254654 Inspector Phanuel Andrew died due to gunshot at Abiakpo Idem Idem village.

“A team of policemen were mobilised to the scene, and saw the personnel lying dead inside his black Toyota Corolla car, his finger placed on his AK 47 rifle with breach No 04826 loaded with two rounds of ammunition.

“The magazine was on the car seat, a bullet pierced through his neck to his head and hit his car roof, suggesting that he may have been clearing his gun chamber. One Emmanuel Akpan Ekanem, a native doctor was arrested. The rifle has been recovered and the corpse has been taken to the general hospital mortuary. The investigation has commenced.”
