Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested a suspected gun runner and seized nearly 1,000 rounds of ammunition in Taraba State.
The arrest took place on Saturday, February 21, 2026, during a targeted stop-and-search operation at Sarkin Kudu in the Ibi Local Government Area.
Acting on actionable and credible intelligence, vigilant troops flagged down a suspicious Audi vehicle with the registration number RBC 798 DV (Abuja). A subsequent search led to the apprehension of Mr Monday Reuben, a 48-year-old native of Numan Local Government Area in Adamawa State.
The Nigerian Army confirmed the recovery of a significant cache of weaponry and cash from the suspect’s vehicle. The haul included two AK-47 rifles and 969 rounds of various calibres, specifically 7.62 x 51mm NATO, 9mm Parabellum, and 7.62mm special rounds.
Beyond the weaponry, troops recovered 197 empty magazines, a power bank, and ₦2,440,000 in cash. Personal effects found on the suspect included two mobile phones, four ATM cards, four identification cards, and a collection of local charms.
Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Micheal Akaliro, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops for their alertness and professional conduct. He reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to the Chief of Army Staff’s mandate to eliminate criminal threats within the state.
General Akaliro emphasised that the Brigade must maintain the current tempo to rid Taraba State of all forms of criminality and threats to lives and property.
The Commander also noted that the officers and soldiers involved in the operation would be officially recognised and rewarded under the Brigade’s reward and sanction policy.
The suspect and the seized items remain in military custody. They are expected to be handed over to the relevant civil authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
