Nigerian Army Records Operational Gains Nationwide, Arrests 23 Suspects in 48 Hours

-

The Nigerian Army (NA) says it has recorded significant operational successes across multiple theatres of operation nationwide within the last 48 hours, neutralising one terrorist, arresting 23 suspects linked to terrorism, kidnapping, child trafficking and other criminal activities, and recovering weapons and ammunition.

In a statement on Saturday, the Army said the achievements followed intelligence-driven and coordinated operations carried out by troops across the country.

According to the NA, troops operating in the South-East and South-South apprehended a suspected Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) spy in Anambra State, while two alleged child traffickers were arrested in Orumba South Local Government Area of the state.

“In Edo State, troops arrested four suspected kidnappers and recovered two cutlasses among other items,” the Army said. “They also foiled a kidnapping attempt on a serving soldier in Okpella, forcing the abductors to flee and rescuing the victim unhurt.”

The statement added that another four suspected kidnappers were arrested along the Afua–Ekpoma Road in Edo State during separate operations.

In the North-Central region and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), troops arrested four suspected violent extremists in Gwagwalada Area Council, Abuja, while two impostors wearing military and police uniforms were apprehended in Nasarawa State.

“Seven suspected kidnappers were also arrested across Toto and Doma Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State,” the Army said, noting that recovered items included “one machete, one dagger and 13 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, among other exhibits.”

On the North-East/Benue–Taraba axis, the Army disclosed that troops on fighting patrol in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State made contact with violent extremists, neutralising one terrorist and apprehending another after a firefight.

In Taraba State, troops responding to a kidnapping incident along the Wukari–Ikyior Road rescued two abducted victims after the suspects fled upon sighting security forces.

Reaffirming its commitment to national security, the Nigerian Army said it would continue to protect lives and property across the country.

“The Nigerian Army remains committed to safeguarding Nigerians and calls on members of the public to continue supporting security forces with timely and credible information,” the statement said. “Collective vigilance remains vital to securing Nigeria and sustaining public confidence in ongoing operations.”
