Nigerian Police Force Embraces AI at Landmark Leadership Workshop

-

The Nigeria Police Force has concluded its Second AI-POL Leadership Dialogue Workshop, bringing together law enforcement leaders, technology experts, and international partners to chart a course for artificial intelligence adoption in Nigerian policing.

The two-day event, held on Wednesday, June 3, in Abuja, focused on advancing innovation, governance, and the responsible use of AI in law enforcement. Participants examined real-world applications of AI in security operations, weighed the challenges of adopting emerging technologies, and drew on global experiences to shape a practical roadmap for the Force.

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu underscored the urgency of the moment, warning that AI is no longer a distant consideration. “Artificial intelligence is already reshaping how security agencies operate around the world,” Disu said, urging participants to carry the knowledge gained back to their commands and translate it into concrete action.

A major highlight of the workshop was a presentation drawing from the outcomes of the 5th Global Meeting for AI and Law Enforcement, which formally recognised Nigeria as a priority partner for the African AI Policing Pilot — a designation that positions the country as a continental leader in technology-driven policing.

The Nigeria Police Force said it remains committed to building a police service that is transparent, innovative, and accountable to the citizens it serves. #Securitynewsalert.com
