Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two terrorists, rescued three kidnapped victims, and recovered a cache of arms and equipment during separate operations across Zamfara State, the Army announced Friday.
The operational successes were recorded in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas on June 12, 2026.
In the first operation, soldiers on a fighting patrol through Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa in Zurmi LGA made contact with a group of terrorists in Yanbuki District.
In the ensuing firefight, troops neutralised one terrorist and recovered rifles, four loaded magazines, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser, and an inner vest.
As the patrol advanced to Sabon Garin Daudawa, the remaining terrorists abandoned their camp and fled before troops arrived. Soldiers subsequently cleared and destroyed the enclave.
In a separate operation along the Shinkafi–Moriki axis, troops conducting a routine patrol successfully ambushed a group of terrorists, neutralising one and recovering an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, a Baofeng communication radio, two motorcycles, and assorted charms.
The three kidnapped victims rescued during the operations are currently receiving medical care, with efforts underway to reunite them with their families.
Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said the command “remains resolute in its commitment to restoring peace and security in Zamfara State and the North-West region.”
He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies. #Securitynewsalert.com
