The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun is currently trying to calm panicky residents of the state, following the abduction of a former provost of Federal College of Education, Dr. Ayodele Adetayo Ajayi, with his driver today in Olodo, along Abeokuta-Ibadan Road.

The State’s Police spokesperson, a Superintendent of Police, Omolola Odutola, while confirming the incident, said that Ajayi’s wife was also kidnapped, but later abandoned by the suspects who were fleeing from the police operatives chasing them.

The distraught wife of the victim was said to have been rushed to the hospital. It was also learned that the gunmen abandoned the victim’s car.

It was also gathered that Abiodun, frantic to rescue the victim, has synergised with sister agencies and in a joint operation is now combing bushes.

Others involved in the search and rescue party are the state government forces, Amotekun, local vigilante groups, and hunters.

Their job is to trail and arrest the bandits and rescue the victims alive.

According to Odutola, the Police first got wind of the incident following a panicky phone call from a distressed bus passenger at about 6:13 PM today 25th of July, shouting the route on which their bus was plying had been blocked by armed robbers.

He added that it was due to the activities of the armed robbers, that their bus driver was forced to park and wait out the operation.

The PPRO said: “Not quite long after that, another report was received through a direct message from a staff of the Federal College of Education that their immediate past provost, Dr. Ayodele Adetayo Ajayi

was kidnapped on his way from Olodo to Abeokuta.”

CP Abiodun, trying to calm frayed nerves and petrified citizens, deployed operational teams and detectives of the Ogun Police Command to go after the yet-to-be-identified gunmen.  He then urged members of the public to remain calm.

According to Odutola, although the details of the kidnap were still sketchy, the Police will give further details to members of the public immediately after the combined security teams come up on the kidnappers.
