NSCDC Clinches 3rd Kada Unity Cup in Thrilling Penalty Shootout

-

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been crowned champions of the 3rd Edition of the Kada Unity Cup after a hard-fought victory over the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in the tournament final.

The prestigious football competition, organised by former Governor His Excellency Chief Lucky Igbinedion, featured 12 teams from various security and paramilitary agencies. The tournament was designed to foster unity, discipline, and sportsmanship among the nation’s security forces.

The NSCDC team’s journey to the podium was defined by resilience and tactical brilliance. In a high-stakes semi-final encounter, they defeated the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) 2–1 to secure their spot in the finale.

The final match against the Nigeria Immigration Service proved even more intense, ending in a 1–1 draw after regulation time. The NSCDC eventually held their nerve in a dramatic penalty shootout, winning 5–4 to secure the trophy in grand style.

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, who chaired the tournament, personally presented the trophy to the victors. He lauded the players for their discipline and the high level of performance displayed throughout the competition.

Edo State Commandant, Akintayo Saidi Ayinla, was present on the sidelines to cheer his team to victory. Speaking to journalists following the win, Commandant Ayinla attributed the success to divine grace and the visionary leadership of the NSCDC Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi.

He noted that the enabling environment and motivation provided by the Commandant General have inspired officers to excel not only in their core mandate of protecting national assets but also in engagements that promote physical fitness and inter-agency unity.

The Commandant officially dedicated the victory to CG Audi, noting that his steadfast commitment to staff welfare remains a primary driver for the Corps’ recent successes across the federation.

The NSCDC’s dominance was further cemented by both collective and individual accolades. As champions, the team was awarded a grand prize of Two Million Naira (₦2,000,000). Additionally, Thomas Ihikweme of the NSCDC was named the Best Player of the Tournament in recognition of his outstanding performance and immense contribution to the team’s success.

This victory highlights the physical fitness and team spirit within the NSCDC while reinforcing the Corps’ commitment to fostering collaboration among security agencies in Edo State.
