NSCDC Intercepts Truckload of Vandalised Railway Tracks Disguised as Chicken Feed, Arrests 5 Suspects

-

In a major blow to infrastructure vandalism, the Bauchi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted a long-haul truck laden with stolen railway tracks hidden beneath layers of commercial goods.

The operation, which took place along the Bauchi-Jos road, led to the immediate arrest of five suspects currently being held in connection with the theft. Investigators traced the origin of the vandalised materials to Gital town, located within the Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

While parading the suspects and the recovered items, State Commandant Oloyede Nelson revealed that the breakthrough was the result of a coordinated sting operation fueled by credible intelligence.

“Our personnel, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a truck in Miri village that appeared to be transporting harmless cargo,” Commandant Nelson stated. “Upon a thorough search, we discovered that the suspects had disguised 80 pieces of vandalised railway tracks by covering them with bags of chicken feed and slippers to evade detection at checkpoints.”

The seizure included the heavy-duty truck used for transport and a Lexus RX 330 with registration number BWR 60 DN, believed to be linked to the syndicate. Beyond the railway components, the command also took possession of the various “cover goods” used in the botched smuggling attempt.

Despite the successful arrests, the primary architect of the operation remains a fugitive.

“Five suspects are already in our custody and are providing useful information,” Nelson added. “However, our efforts are now intensified to track down the alleged mastermind and the driver of the truck, both of whom managed to flee the scene and are currently at large.”

The NSCDC has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting national assets and warned that those targeting the state’s rail infrastructure will face the full weight of the law.
