Nurses Forum Condemns Alleged Assault on Family in Somolu, Demands Police, GBV Action

-

The Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF) has condemned the alleged assault of a woman, her daughters and a male relative in Somolu, Lagos, calling for urgent police intervention and gender-based violence (GBV) response.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Thomas Abiodun Olamide, the group described the incident, which reportedly occurred on Saturday night, April 26, 2026, as “shocking and unlawful.”

According to the forum, the incident began around 8 p.m. when a young girl returned home after buying sachet water amid a power outage. As she attempted to enter her compound, she reportedly said “excuse me” to a man identified as Emmanuel, who was blocking the passage.

“Rather than simply allowing her to pass, Emmanuel allegedly dragged the young girl by her hair, verbally harassed her, and questioned her upbringing in an aggressive and humiliating manner,” the statement said.

The forum added that the situation escalated when the child’s mother came out to question the confrontation.

“We are deeply alarmed that Emmanuel allegedly threatened to physically assault the mother and subsequently carried out that threat,” Olamide said.

Eyewitnesses, according to the group, alleged that another individual identified as Godwin joined the attack, with both men reportedly assaulting the mother, her daughters and a cousin who intervened.

“Particularly disturbing is the reported attack on the younger female child, who was dragged by her hair and thrown into a gutter,” the statement read. “This act of violence against a minor and against women is barbaric, unacceptable, and must be condemned.”

The forum further alleged that the male relative who tried to protect the victims was struck from behind with an object, sustaining a head injury.

It also raised concerns over reported threats made after the incident, including warnings that the victims should not remain in their home and claims that the perpetrators would face no consequences.

“The Elegant Nurses Forum condemns in the strongest possible terms this act of lawlessness, violence, intimidation, and gender-based assault,” Olamide said, adding that “an attack on women and a child is an attack on the moral conscience of our society.”

The group called on the Lagos State Police Command to ensure the immediate arrest, investigation and prosecution of the suspects.

It also urged the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency to classify the case as gender-based violence and provide necessary intervention.

Among its demands, the forum called for police protection for the affected family, involvement of child protection and civil society organisations, and proper medical and forensic documentation of injuries to support prosecution.

“We call on the Lagos State Government and all law enforcement agencies to act decisively and send a clear message that violence against women, children, and law-abiding citizens will never be tolerated,” the statement added.

“Justice must not only be done; it must be seen to be done.” #Securitynewsalert.com
