The Director-General of Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, on Saturday announced that occupants of a two-story building narrowly escaped death following another building collapse at the Ago-Palace Way area of Lagos State.
It was gathered that tragedy was averted because the occupants had rushed out two hours before the building collapsed after seeing signs that it was about to carve in.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the affected building is located at Chris Igadi Street, off Ago Palace Way, opposite Kilimanjaro/ AP Filling Station.
He explained that the Agency responded to the above at 3: am Saturday.
He said: “On arrival, information gathered from the residents revealed that the building gave signs several hours before the building collapsed. Fortunately, nobody was trapped as all the occupants evacuated the area when the signs began- two hours before the collapse. A headcount of occupants was carried out to ensure no occupants is missing and the remains of the building were cordoned off. The operation was concluded at about 5:23 am. The site will be handed over to LABSCA and Ministry of Physical Planning for further investigation.”
