Ogun Police Dismantles Crime Networks, Arrests 6 Suspects, Recovers Firearms

-

The Ogun State Police Command has recorded breakthroughs in its fight against violent crime, following coordinated intelligence-led operations by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and Ibafo Division.

The operations, carried out across Abeokuta, Wasimi and Ibafo, led to the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of firearms, ammunition, generators, and mobile phones.

The suspects arrested include Afisu Awesu, Bala Aminu, Moruf Sodiq alias “Okiki”, Mumuni Amodu alias “Stone”, Abayomi John alias “Ibafo”, and Mr Adeboye Ojesina. Recovered exhibits comprise one pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, five generators, and nine Android mobile phones suspected to have been stolen.

On May 30, 2026, operatives of the VCRU dismantled a generator theft syndicate in Abeokuta, arresting Moruf Sodiq, who later led police to Mumuni Amodu, identified as the receiver of stolen property. A search of Amodu’s premises yielded four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator, and nine Android phones. Further investigation led to the arrest of Abayomi John, a motorcyclist alleged to have provided logistics support for the syndicate.

On June 12, 2026, SWAT operatives stormed Wasimi, arresting 58-year-old Adeboye Ojesina in connection with unlawful possession of firearms. A search recovered one locally fabricated pistol, one pump-action rifle, and ammunition. Ojesina initially denied ownership but later admitted to testing the pistol and claimed the rifle was handed to him by an unidentified individual now being trailed by police.

The following day, June 13, 2026, Ibafo Division uncovered a vehicle parts theft network. Acting on a complaint from Igbeti Sote Village, operatives intercepted Afisu Awesu while attempting to steal a forklift engine component. Investigations revealed earlier theft of forklift tyres, which had been sold to Bala Aminu of Kara, Ibafo. Aminu was promptly arrested, while efforts continue to apprehend Awesu’s fleeing accomplice.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that all suspects are in custody and will be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations.

Authorities emphasised that discreet investigations are ongoing to dismantle remaining criminal networks across the state. #Securitynewsalert.com
