Ondo Police Cracks Interstate Vehicle Fraud Ring, Arrests Six Over ₦71m Fraud

-

The Ondo State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough with the arrest of six suspects in connection with the alleged fraudulent sale and illegal transfer of three heavy-duty vehicles valued at over ₦71 million.

The suspects, identified as Adeola Kolawole (56), Alhaji Gani Bello (73), Oladoja Akeem (56), Wasiu Adigun (55), Azeez Yusuf (49) and Ojo Mudasiru (40), were apprehended in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a painstaking and intelligence-driven investigation by operatives of the Fagun Division.

The case was reported to the Police on 22nd May, 2026, by one Mr Paul Aderemi of Ayegunle Street, Ondo. Preliminary investigation revealed that in May 2025, the complainant purchased a low-loader truck, a tipper truck, and a small truck valued at approximately ₦71 million, which he entrusted to the custody of the principal suspect, Adeola Kolawole, at Arigbabola Street, Ondo, under an agreed arrangement.

The complainant, however, discovered on 13th May, 2026, that the vehicles had allegedly been sold without his authorisation.

Disturbed by the development, he promptly reported the matter to the Police.  Upon receipt of the complaint, detectives immediately commenced a comprehensive investigation.

Acting on credible intelligence, the principal suspect, Adeola Kolawole, was arrested and subsequently made useful statements during interrogation, allegedly admitting to selling the vehicles to one Alhaji Gani Bello in Ibadan.

This confession provided vital leads that enabled investigators to track down and arrest other suspects believed to have played various roles in the unlawful transaction.

The Command is currently intensifying efforts to recover the three vehicles and unravel the full extent of the criminal conspiracy.

All six suspects have reportedly made confessional statements detailing their respective involvement in the offence. They will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

This remarkable achievement is a testament to the Ondo State Police Command’s unwavering determination to pursue criminal elements wherever they may attempt to evade justice.

It further underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing, inter-state collaboration and the robust working relationship existing between the Command and other Police formations across the country.

The successful tracking and arrest of the suspects outside Ondo State demonstrate the Command’s resolve to ensure that criminals have no haven and will be held accountable for their actions, irrespective of where they flee.

The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, commended the diligence and professionalism of the investigating officers whose prompt response led to the breakthrough.

He also expressed profound appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his unwavering support, strategic leadership and continued commitment to strengthening policing capacity across the country.  The Commissioner reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and warned individuals involved in criminal activities that the long arm of the law will always catch up with them.

He emphasised that the Command remains resolute in ensuring that all offenders are brought to justice.

CP Ohagwu further urged members of the public to continue partnering with the Police by providing timely, credible, and actionable information that will aid ongoing efforts to combat crime and maintain peace and security throughout Ondo State.
