One Feared Dead As Marauding Task Force Operatives Swoop On Lagos Cyclists

-

At least one person is believed to have been killed and others injured following a clash between marauding operatives of the Lagos State Task Force On Environmental Sanitation  And Special Offences, who swooped on commercial motorcycle riders, popularly called Okada, at the Egbeda area of Lagos State.

Securitynewsalert heard that the tense atmosphere escalated after a commercial bus was set ablaze on Wednesday during the clash between both factions.

An eyewitness disclosed that the Task Force officials stormed the Ponle area of Egbeda at about 7:am, allegedly to extort the riders, on Ponle Street and other adjoining streets.

The riders were said to have confronted the officials over what they alleged was “incessant extortion in recent times” by the officials.

The eyewitness said an attempt by the officials to seize some of the riders’ motorcycles led to an attack on the officials by the rider, who suspected that the officials might have come on illegal duty.

In the ensuing scuffle, one of the riders was shot in his leg. This, it was revealed, further spiralled the clash.

A young man said to be on the side of the official was also feared to have died later.

A call made to the chairman of the Task Force, CSP Adetayo Akerele, was not answered.

He would later respond via text message that he would call back. However, at the time of filing this report, he was yet to call.
