Two people have died following a violent clash at the Naira and Kobo motor park in Ikire, a town in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, police have confirmed.
The trouble broke out on Monday, and in the hours that followed, rumours spread that as many as five people had been killed. But police say that’s not the case at least not yet. So far, only two deaths have been verified, and officers are still piecing together what actually happened.
The state’s new Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, didn’t waste time getting to the scene. He was joined by Samuel Etaifo, the Commissioner of Police overseeing Osun’s election security, and together they toured Ikire to assess the situation for themselves.
Both men gave residents a firm assurance: whoever is responsible will be found, and they will face justice. They also promised a full investigation into what triggered the clash in the first place.
