Detectives from the Oyo State Police Command have apprehended a 49-year-old man, Peter Adubi, for the alleged defilement of a 13-year-old girl.
The arrest, which took place following a formal report filed on January 8, 2026, brings to light a harrowing case of abuse that reportedly occurred years prior.
The investigation began after the victim’s guardian noticed significant and troubling behavioural changes in the minor. Following gentle questioning, the young girl revealed that she had been sexually abused in 2022 while residing with her mother in the Molade area of Ibadan.
Police authorities immediately moved to secure medical intervention for the child, and subsequent hospital examinations provided clinical confirmation of the abuse.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, noted that the suspect was taken into custody after preliminary investigations and a visit to the scene of the crime.
The case has now been officially transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Gender Desk for a discreet and thorough probe to ensure all facts are established for prosecution.
While addressing the development, the Commissioner of Police for Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, emphasised the command’s commitment to protecting the most vulnerable members of the public.
“The Command assures the good people of Oyo State that justice will be diligently pursued,” CP Haruna stated. “We strongly urge citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any incidents of sexual abuse, as community cooperation remains vital in safeguarding our children and ensuring a safer society.”
The Commissioner also extended his appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his leadership and continued guidance in the pursuit of justice.
As the investigation continues, the police have encouraged residents to utilise the state’s toll-free emergency lines to report similar crimes and help maintain public safety.
