Lead Pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC), Matthew Ashimolowo, has called on Nigerians to rally behind President Bola Tinubu in the fight against insecurity, while proposing that National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members be trained to assist in security operations.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Ashimolowo commended President Tinubu’s commitment to improving the nation’s security architecture but stressed that government efforts alone are insufficient without the backing of citizens.
He urged Nigerians to actively support initiatives aimed at combating banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities, noting that the country urgently needs a positive turnaround.
“We need everyone to raise the security standard, tap into the wealth of talent in this nation, and project Nigeria positively to the world,” he said. “Every African country admires Nigeria. We are tough, strong, fearless, and bold. With leadership determined to make a difference, Nigerians should stand behind the president and support his efforts.”
Ashimolowo further recommended that all NYSC members receive special training to contribute to national security operations, arguing that their involvement could strengthen the country’s response to threats.
On the contentious issue of state police, the clergyman expressed caution, warning that although potentially useful, state-controlled security outfits could be exploited for political purposes. “State police may be useful but could become a personal army used to intimidate and terrorise others,” he said.
