PDSS: Kwara State Commissioner Of Police To Inaugurate The PDSS Advisory Committee Today

-

The Police Duty Solicitors Scheme (PDSS) is an initiative of the Nigerian Police and the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria* to protect the rights of suspects who have been arrested and detained by the Police.

The Scheme was facilitated and supported by the Open Society Justice Initiative in its early days and promoted by REPLACE; an NGO established to ensure its continuity.

PDSS has gone through many implementation phases and has produced very positive outcomes, especially in decongesting police cells, the courts and subsequently the correctional facilities.

Kwara State joins other States like Ogun, Lagos, Anambra, Kano etc to establish the PDSS Advisory Committee which will ensure the smooth running of the Scheme in Kwara State.

With direct support from Afam Osigwe SAN, Alhaji Mutiu Ganiyu, Esq, Justice Reform Project and others; Kwara State PDSS is being inaugurated by the Kwara State Commissioner of Police.

Other members of the PDSS Advisory Committee include representatives of the State Chief Judge, Attorney General, NYSC, State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission, and the Nigerian Bar Association, just to mention a few.

Duty Solicitors Network is proud to support this scheme throughout the nation as we encourage lawyers to volunteer some of their time to PDSS
