Police Arrest Five Suspects Over N100m Armed Robbery of Phones in Ogun

-

The Nigeria Police Force says operatives of its Special Tactical Squad (STS) have arrested five suspects linked to the armed robbery of a mobile phone and accessories dealer in Ogun State.

Force spokesperson, CSP Ani Iniedu, said the arrests followed a petition to the Inspector-General of Police by Sanniphil Company, after its consignment of phones and accessories was violently robbed.

According to the police, STS operatives launched a discreet investigation on 10th August 2026, which culminated in the suspects’ arrest in Ogun State.

Preliminary findings showed that on 5th August 2026 at about 7:00 p.m., the suspects attacked a company vehicle transporting phones and accessories worth roughly ₦100 million from Lagos to Onitsha, making away with the goods.

The suspects were identified as Okori Joyus, 23; Yetunde Lasisi, 53; Usen Samuel, 20; Usen Wisdom, 25; and Quadri Oluwadare, 56.

Police said 81 brand-new smartphones and 196 chargers were recovered from the suspects as exhibits.

Efforts are ongoing to track down other gang members still at large and recover the remaining stolen items, the police added.

The Force reiterated its commitment to protecting businesses and citizens from violent crime nationwide.
