Police Arrest Four, Recover Firearms in Ogun Crackdown

-

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered firearms and ammunition in a series of intelligence-led operations across Mowe, Sagamu and Odeda areas of the state.

Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who disclosed this in a statement on April 19, 2026, said the operations were part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

In Mowe, operatives acting on a tip-off from a member of the public arrested a 36-year-old suspect, Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, at about 4:30 p.m. on April 14 around Mowe Bus Stop. “A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a single-barrel locally made pistol, one expended cartridge, and charms concealed in his bag,” Babaseyi said. The suspect reportedly confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity during interrogation.

Similarly, on April 17, operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) intercepted a motorcyclist, Asaye Ajibola, 30, during a stop-and-search operation along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road. Police said a locally made single-barrel gun loaded with nine cartridges was recovered from him. “The suspect could not provide a satisfactory account of the firearm and was immediately arrested,” the statement added.

In another operation on April 18 at the same axis, a 49-year-old suspect, Adedeji Olufemi, was apprehended by QRS operatives while riding a motorcycle. He was found in possession of a locally made double-barreled gun with eight cartridges. Police said he also failed to give a satisfactory explanation regarding the weapon.

In a related development, a suspected accidental shooting incident was recorded in the Sawmill area of Osiele under Odeda Division on April 18. A local vigilante member, Mutiu Sadiku, was arrested after allegedly discharging a firearm accidentally while returning from the farm, injuring three persons. “The victims were promptly taken to medical facilities, where they received treatment and are currently in stable condition, responding well to treatment,” Babaseyi stated, adding that the firearm was recovered in collaboration with the Amotekun Corps.

All suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended officers involved in the operations for their professionalism. He reiterated the command’s commitment to intensifying intelligence-driven operations against unlawful possession of firearms, cultism and other violent crimes. #Securitynewsalert.com
