Police arrest suspect divulging information on military, vigilante operations

The Zamfara State Police Command said it has arrested two suspected bandit informants, who used to assist bandits to impose levies on villagers.

The police also arrested another suspect alleged of giving divulging information on operational activities of security agencies and vigilante groups.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Superintendent of Police (SP), Mohammed Shehu, those in police custody are Abubakar Idaho, 75, Almustapha Dahiru, 69, and Mohammed Sani Jibrin.

Shehu said: “The first and second suspects mentioned above were arrested by the Police Tactical operatives in connection with partnering with bandits to impose levies on Kwarya Tsugunne and Yanbuki villages in Maru and Zurmi LGAs respectively.

“The suspects during interrogation confessed to the Police that, on several occasions, they imposed levies on villagers that run into millions and delivered the same to bandits while getting their percentage. They further confessed that recently they imposed and collected a levy of N1.2 from Kwarya Tsugunne village. While the third suspect was arrested for being an informant to bandits by divulging information about the operational activities of security agencies and vigilante groups at Kekun Waje village in Bungudu Local Government Area. The suspect while undergoing interrogation confessed to the alleged criminality.  A discreet investigation is in progress, all the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution on completion of the investigation.”
