Police Arrest Suspected Quack Practitioner Operating Unlicensed Medical Facility In Ibadan

-

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Adeniyi Benjamin, for allegedly operating as a quack medical practitioner and running an unlicensed medical facility in the Olodo area of Ibadan.

The suspect was arrested on October 2, 2026, at about 3 p.m. by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit following credible intelligence about his activities at Life Is Good Hospital, Olodo, Ibadan.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, operatives who visited the facility found Benjamin attending to patients and administering treatments, particularly fertility-related treatments, despite allegedly not being a certified medical doctor.

The police said several items were recovered from the facility, including two weighing scales, four Quantum Magnetic Resonance Body Analysers, a stethoscope, a large carton containing assorted medicines and specimen bottles.

The command said preliminary investigation showed that the suspect confessed to operating as a quack practitioner for about seven years.

Benjamin allegedly admitted that he had been practising without being a medical doctor and without any licence to practise medicine.

He also reportedly told investigators that he specialised in fertility-related treatment, which he had been administering to patients at the facility.

The Police said the development raised concerns about the risks posed to members of the public who may unknowingly seek treatment from unqualified practitioners, particularly in sensitive areas such as fertility care.

The command therefore advised members of the public to verify the professional credentials and registration status of individuals offering medical services before entrusting their health or that of their loved ones to them.

Residents were also urged to report suspicious medical facilities or individuals presenting themselves as medical practitioners without verifiable credentials to the police or relevant regulatory authorities.

The command said such information would help prevent unsuspecting members of the public from falling victim to unqualified practitioners.

It added that an investigation was ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspect’s activities and determine whether other persons were connected to the operation of the facility.

The police said appropriate action would be taken in accordance with the law after the conclusion of the investigation.

The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and said it would continue to collaborate with relevant regulatory agencies and members of the public to identify activities capable of endangering the health and safety of residents.

The statement was signed by DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, on October 7, 2026.

Members of the public can contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre on toll-free line 615, or the Oyo State Police Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413 in emergencies.
