The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of three suspected members of an armed robbery and car-snatching syndicate that has been operating across Kaduna State and the Federal Capital Territory, according to a statement released Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.
Operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS), acting on intelligence, carried out coordinated raids in Kaduna State and Abuja between August 14 and 19, resulting in the arrest of Ahmed Saidu (alias “Diamond ‘M'”), Alex Gabriel (alias “Junior ‘M'”), and Ahmed Mahudu (also using the alias “Diamond ‘M'”). The three are alleged to be linked to a string of armed robberies in which vehicles were snatched at gunpoint.
Police say the suspects confessed to their roles in the crimes during interrogation and named Yakubu Yewa, alias “Y/Come,” as the syndicate’s kingpin. According to the statement, Yewa is already in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre, where he is facing trial on separate armed robbery charges.
Investigators say Yewa allegedly directed the group’s robbery operations and coordinated the disposal of stolen vehicles both locally and abroad.
During the operation, police recovered two vehicles: a red Toyota Corolla and an army-coloured Volkswagen Golf 3.
The Force said the arrests reflect its continued effort to dismantle organised criminal networks and protect lives and property, adding that those involved in the syndicate would be brought to justice.
