Police Arrest Two Suspects for Vandalising Electric Cables in Nasarawa

-

The Nigeria Police Force in Nasarawa State has arrested two suspected vandals for allegedly damaging and stealing electric cables and poles along the Gitata–Gunduma Road.

The suspects, identified as 41-year-old Chigozie Igbokwe and 45-year-old Emmanuel John, both residents of Jikwoyi in the Federal Capital Territory, were apprehended by a patrol team attached to the Gitata Division during a routine patrol.

Police Public Relations Officer of the Nasarawa State Command, Ramhan Nansel, said the suspects were arrested at about 5:40 a.m. on March 6, 2026.

According to him, officers intercepted the suspects while they were allegedly transporting vandalised electrical materials.

“On 06/03/2026 at about 0540hrs, a patrol team attached to Gitata Division, while on routine patrol along the Gitata–Gunduma Road, apprehended two suspects in connection with the vandalisation of electric cables and poles,” Nansel said.

He added that items recovered from the suspects included iron cutters, pliers, spanners, electric cables, and a grey Hyundai Sonata with registration number GWA 44 PM, which was allegedly used to convey the vandalised materials.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for discreet investigation and prosecution,” Nansel stated.

Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement and whether other accomplices are connected to the vandalism. #Securitynewsalert.com
