The Force spokesman, Anthony Okon Placide, said that the Nigeria Police Force has commenced disciplinary proceedings against a police sergeant captured in a viral video rolling on the ground, allegedly under the influence of illicit drugs.
It will be recalled that this particular officer was seen in the viral video rolling on the ground, while in uniform. Most people who commented and shared the video claimed that he was high on an illicit drug known as Colorado.
In a statement issued by Placide, the Force said the officer, who appeared in camouflage uniform in the video, displayed conduct “grossly inconsistent with the standards of the Force.”
According to the statement, the officer was swiftly identified by the Ekiti State Police Command as a sergeant attached to the Ikole-Ekiti Divisional Police Headquarters and has since been taken into custody for disciplinary action.
The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Falade Adegoroye Michael, also ordered a comprehensive psychological and medical evaluation of the officer as part of the disciplinary process.
Police authorities said the assessment was a mandatory step aimed at addressing both the alleged misconduct and any possible underlying health concerns.
Reacting to the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, condemned the officer’s conduct, describing it as “a gross deviation from the discipline, professionalism, and decorum required of every member of the Nigeria Police Force.”
The police reiterated that the Force maintains a zero-tolerance stance against substance abuse and any behaviour capable of undermining public trust and the integrity of the police institution.
