Police Constable Fatally Shot in Bauchi, Soldiers Arrested

-

The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the death of a police constable who was allegedly shot and killed by two private soldiers on the night of Friday, October 10, 2025.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu has confirmed the arrests of the two soldiers involved and is urging police personnel to remain calm while a thorough and discreet investigation is conducted. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact circumstances of the death.

According to a police statement, the tragic events began at approximately 10:35 PM when a patrol team led by Inspector Hussaini Samaila encountered an assault on one of its officers, Constable Ukasha Muhammed, in front of the Padimo Hotel in the Bayan Gari area. The team responded swiftly, apprehending one suspect, identified as Private Usman Mubarak (23NA/84/5346) of the STF Operation Safe Heaven, Jos.

The situation escalated about 30 minutes later, at 11:05 PM, when two other soldiers, Private Yakubu Yahuza (23NA/85/10185) and Private Godspower Gabriel (23NA/84/5654), arrived at the scene. The two men, who were partially dressed in military uniforms and armed with rifles, allegedly shot Constable Muhammed in the left chest before fleeing.

The wounded officer was immediately evacuated to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead by medical personnel.

The two alleged shooters, Private Yahuza and Private Gabriel, were subsequently apprehended and are now being held in police custody.

The Command has established a team of seasoned homicide detectives to lead the investigation, which is being treated as a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Inciting Disturbance of Public Peace, and Culpable Homicide.

“The team is tasked with conducting a professional, diligent, and timely investigation to establish evidence, clear all doubts, and ensure that justice is served,” the statement read.

Commissioner Aliyu expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased officer. “May his soul rest in peace,” he said. “May Aljannatul Firdausi be his final abode, and may Almighty Allah give the families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
