Police Detectives Bust Alleged Phone Thief Who Targeted Church Vigils in Lagos

-

Detectives from the popular Mile 12 Market Police Post in Lagos have arrested a young man who allegedly specialises in stealing worshippers’ phones during church vigils.

The suspect, Adekunle Afeez, was apprehended last Friday at his residence in the Mile 12 area of the metropolis, following a tip-off from well-meaning residents.

Reliable sources disclosed that Afeez specifically targets night-vigil worshippers in the Mushin area. A few weeks ago, he reportedly stole two phones during a church vigil, an incident that a Facebook user later exposed on social media.

Some residents of Mile 12, who asked not to be named, said their trust in the officer in charge of the Mile 12 Market Police Post, SP Endurance Ovwhigho, encouraged them to report the suspect’s activities.

Ovwhigho reportedly assigned a team of detectives to track the suspect. Luck ran out for Afeez last Friday when, while attempting to head out for another alleged operation, he was arrested. A search of his residence led to the recovery of a smartphone he confessed to stealing from a worshipper in Mushin.

He has since been transferred to the Mushin Police Station for further investigation.
