Police Foil Diesel Theft in Ibadan, Recover Property Worth ₦12m

-

The Oyo State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in its fight against theft and the protection of public and private property.

Acting on credible intelligence and with the cooperation of vigilant members of the public, operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit intercepted two suspects, Yusuf Mutiyat (43, female) and Ogunniyan Rasheed (64, male), at Kopek Construction Company in Ibadan. The duo was allegedly caught siphoning liquid substances suspected to be diesel from a mixer truck.
A subsequent search led to the recovery of stolen items valued at millions of naira, including 24 barrels containing approximately 10,000 litres of diesel, estimated at ₦12 million.
Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, PSC+, commended the professionalism and dedication of the officers involved. He also praised the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, whose vision and guidance, he said, continue to inspire operational successes nationwide.

The Command further acknowledged the critical role of public support, noting that timely intelligence from residents was instrumental in the swift interception of the suspects and recovery of stolen property.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the theft and identify possible accomplices.
The Oyo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide actionable intelligence to aid in the fight against criminality.
