Police Foil Kidnapping Attempts in Edo State, Arrest Suspects

-

The Edo State Police Command has announced breakthroughs in its fight against kidnapping, following a series of successful operations in Igarra and surrounding areas. These efforts are part of the crime-fighting strategies introduced by Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc.
On January 28, 2026, at about 1:30 p.m., operatives of the Igarra Area Command arrested two suspected kidnappers along the Auchi–Igarra Highway. The suspects, identified as Muhammed Muamadu Haru, 35, and Abubakar Muhammed Haruna, 25, were recognised by a vigilante member as part of a kidnapping syndicate previously engaged in a bush-combing rescue operation.

The duo attempted to flee into the bush but were swiftly intercepted. Police say investigations are ongoing.

In another operation on February 2, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., a motorcycle patrol team from the Igarra Area Command foiled a kidnapping attempt along the Auchi–Igarra Express Road.

Officers intercepted three suspects preparing to block the highway. After a hot pursuit, the suspects fled into the forest, abandoning items believed to be for criminal use, including food supplies, mobile phones, jack knives, and personal effects. Police have intensified bush-combing operations to track down the fleeing suspects.

Commissioner Agbonika commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, assuring residents of the Command’s determination to rid Edo State of criminal elements. He urged the public to remain alert and report suspicious activities to the police.
