Police Nab Suspected Armed Robber In Lagos, Recover Cache Of Dangerous Weapons

-

In a breakthrough against crime in Lagos State, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) have arrested a suspected armed robber, recovering a cache of dangerous weapons, including an AK-49 assault rifle.

The suspect, identified as Omotayo Iwajomo, was apprehended during a swift and intelligence-driven operation in the Ajegunle area of Ikorodu.

Acting on credible information, detectives raided a suspected criminal hideout early Tuesday and found the suspect in possession of one AK-49 rifle, three magazines, fifteen rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, three 9mm (K2) rounds, and two rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Iwajomo has been deeply involved in armed robbery and illegal land-grabbing activities across various parts of Lagos, using the recovered weapon to intimidate and attack victims.

Police sources reveal that the suspect may be part of a wider criminal syndicate. Authorities are intensifying efforts to track down his accomplices and ensure all individuals connected to the crimes face prosecution.

Commissioner of Police CP Olohundare Jimoh praised the SCID team for their efficiency and reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to intelligence-led policing. He issued a stern warning to criminals: “Lagos remains a hostile ground for unlawful activities. We will continue to root out criminal elements wherever they hide.”

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest and assured the public that justice would be pursued vigorously.

Investigations remain ongoing.
