Police of my dream will be technology driven, Arase tells visiting university of Jos delegration

 The Chairman of the Police Service Commission,  Dr. Solomon Arase, CFR, retired Inspector General of Police, today, Tuesday, February  27th 2024, received in audience a delegation from the University of Jos led by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Tanko Ishaya.

The delegation was in the Commission to seek for partnership and Collaboration between the Commission and the University in areas of training, research and knowledge acquisition.
The PSC Chairman used the occasion to announce that he has a dream of a Nigeria Police Force that is technology-driven and knowledge-based, stressing that this has been his priority since he assumed Office as the Chairman of the Commission.
He noted that Policing has become scientific and technology-driven and promised to partner with the University of Jos to develop our Officers for the challenging task of modern policing.
“Police is no more manual or analogue, it has become knowledge-based and technology-driven and this is the only way we can confront the security challenges facing our nation. We can only reclaim and occupy the ungoverned spaces when we embrace this modern policing” he noted.
Dr. Arase traced his long-standing relationship with the University of Jos and promised to patronise the University in the training of both the Commission staff and Officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
He assured the visitors that the Commission will partner and collaborate with the University to build a new crop of Officers and Men that will change the face of Policing in Nigeria for the better. He said efforts  are in place to improve the training manuals in our colleges to be in tandem with other training colleges in other advanced nations.
Prof. Ishaya, the Vice Chancellor and leader of the delegation had earlier told the PSC Chairman that the delegation was in his office to discuss possible areas of collaboration and partnership with the Commission.
Prof Ishaya said the University can assist train Nigeria Police Officers in cyber security, intelligence gathering, psychology,  law and other fields that would help them improve their policing duties.
“We have experts, we have the manpower, we also have a Directorate of internal security  and we can put together a training manual/programmes for the Police”, he told the PSC Chairman
The Vice Chancellor’s delegation includes Prof Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Dr. Rejoice James Songden, Registrar and Mr. Philip Fada Umbugala, Bursar.  Others  are Mr. Nansak Nimchak, Yakubu Gomos, Dr. Lami Temine, Mrs. Shitnaan Hoomkwap and Nasuk Maigida.
