The Delta State Police Command has announced fresh successes in its campaign against kidnapping and violent crime, rescuing an abducted woman in Sapele and arresting eight suspects linked to an attempted murder case in Abraka, where three locally made pistols and a stash of illicit drugs were recovered.
According to police, the ordeal began at about 7:45 p.m. on September 2, when armed men ambushed a woman at the gate of her residence along Eko Amukpe Road in Sapele as she attempted to drive into her compound. The gunmen reportedly fired shots into the air before dragging her into a nearby bush.
The Divisional Police Officer for Sapele swiftly deployed patrol and surveillance teams to the scene, where spent AK-47 shells were recovered. Backed by local vigilantes, officers combed the surrounding bush through the night and into the following morning, piling pressure on the kidnappers.
The tactic worked. Unable to withstand the sustained search, the abductors abandoned their victim and fled. She was found unharmed and has since been reunited with her family. Police say the hunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.
In a separate operation tied to an earlier attempted murder case reported on September 3, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit raided suspected criminal hideouts in Abraka after receiving what police described as credible intelligence.
Eight suspects were taken into custody: Evans Adamda, Mamatime Micheal, Wale Morakinya, Anabono, Godspower, Theophilus Philip, Robinson Oghenewiro, and Inoni Ejiroghene. Officers recovered three locally made pistols along with Tramadol and other suspected illicit drugs during the raid.
Police say the suspects remain in custody alongside the recovered exhibits as investigators work to establish their roles in the attempted murder case and any other criminal activity in the area.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, praised the operatives and vigilantes involved in both operations.
“We will continue to identify criminal hideouts, apprehend offenders and recover illicit weapons,” Erale said, calling for residents to keep supporting the Command with timely and credible information.
He said the Command remains committed to sustaining what he described as intelligence-led operations against kidnappers, cultists and other criminal elements across the state.
