The Police Service Commission (PSC) has disowned a fake press release circulating on social media claiming that a medical screening exercise for police recruitment candidates has been scheduled for July 16 to 22, 2026.
In a disclaimer issued on Friday, the Commission described the publication as fraudulent, stressing that it was neither issued nor authorised by the PSC.
According to the Commission, the fake notice falsely claimed that a portal would be activated on July 14, 2026, for candidates to print medical screening slips. It also made misleading references to a purported “State Police Act 2026” and postings of successful applicants to their states of origin.
The PSC said the publication was the handiwork of fraudsters and urged candidates and members of the public to disregard it completely.
The Commission disclosed that it held a stakeholders’ meeting on Thursday, July 9, 2026, attended by officials of the PSC, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Federal Character Commission, and the Ministry of Police Affairs to discuss the next phase of the ongoing recruitment exercise.
It stated that an official statement detailing the outcome of the meeting and subsequent stages of the recruitment process would be released in due course.
The Commission advised all applicants to rely only on official communications and verified platforms for information relating to the recruitment exercise.
It reiterated that the recruitment process is entirely free of charge and warned candidates against paying money to individuals or groups claiming to facilitate recruitment.
The PSC also cautioned that anyone found circulating fake press releases or engaging in recruitment-related fraud would face legal consequences.
