The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four policemen attached to the Area C Police Command after a series of viral videos showed them extorting young men believed to be serving National Youths Service Corps members.
The affected victims further shared these videos on social media handles, escalating the matter.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin was tagged repeatedly on the matter on Xspace.
A concerned Nigerian said on a WhatsApp group: “Area C is known for that, quote me. It’s a daily, regular phenomenon there.
“They did a similar thing to one of our interns in our camera unit. Searched his phone, and collected money. When the head of the camera unit called me and I told him to go there, they began to plead because they knew it was NTA. Many other examples because they’re close to us here.”
Responding, Hundeyin said: “The men have been summoned and their trial has commenced. We urge the complainants to visit the Complaint Response Unit at the State Headquarters to testify at the ongoing trial.”
A few days later, the corps members reported to the office of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police.
